When I first started training with Max Larocque, my goals were to lose weight and improve my strength. I also needed the motivation from an experienced trainer to avoid injuring myself so that I could keep moving forward towards my goals. What I didn’t realize was how important taking care of my fitness was to help me cope with my mental health.
I first started training with Max shortly after I lost my son Cole to suicide in 2014. If I had a really low day where I was struggling with my mental health, Max gave me the appropriate amount of space during our workout while still encouraging me to finish my session. Over the years, we have become very good friends and share a lot of laughs while training. We joke, tease and have fun during our sessions. This makes it so much easier going to the gym knowing I have someone in my corner. I can not tell you the number of times I have driven to the gym crying, but after a workout I was able to face the day. Through all my ups and downs, I have received support and encouragement not only from Max, but from many of the trainers and members of F.R.E.E. Fitness. I can’t thank everyone enough for helping me get through the years.
Strong is the new sexy and looking good is a bonus! So, start now no matter what fitness level you think you are at in your life. Your physical, emotional and mental health are worth the investment.
